Danny, Rachel, Tom and I did the 55-mile route of the NYC Century Bike Ride yesterday. It turned out to be 60.75 miles, but I guess that doesn’t look as pretty on a brochure. The odometer doesn’t lie.
Our (very rough) route began at about 110th Street in Central Park on the west sidem and took us up by Columbia, down Riverside Drive, then down Broadway and over the Brooklyn Bridge. Danny got a flat in Soho. Then through Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Park Slope, and into Prospect Park. Then down through Greenwood to the Belt Parkway, followed the shore to Coney Island, and then through some greenway near JFK. Then somehow back to Prospect Park, Ft. Greene, Williamsburg. Greenpoint. Saw Phaedra and Matt going into their building near Ft. Greene. Then up along the East River by Queens to Astoria Park. Crossed the Triboro bridge to Randalls Island, then took the Pedestrian bridge back to Manhattan, then back to Central Park West for our free T-shrirt and water bottle. We rewarded ourselves with nachos and burritos.

Overall, I feel good. No soreness today, just a stiff upper back and neck from being crouched over so long. More pictures on flickr.

Going to Michigan on Labor day seems to be turning into an annual event. This year there was a lot less lazing on the beach, and a lot more Detroit, baseball, beer, and driving around.

a.k.a. COLDEST WEEKEND EVER
President’s Day weekend, and most of us had Monday off (not me), so Papi flew in from Miami for some VT skiing. Little did we know it was going to be like the freaking arctic in Killington. It ended up being like 8 degrees with wind chills below zero, and wind gusts up to like 35 miles an hour on Saturday. I have never in my life been so cold. My boogers froze, my face stung, and I couldn’t feel my extremeties for several hours at a time. Still, it was fun. Highlights include my head-on collision with the chair lift pole (thanks for making my buy a helmet papi!) and The Amazing Flying Apple Pie (photo below).
